In counting cards you simply use your mathematical reasoning inside your head. Counting cards in Blackjack simply means that you track or keep in mind the ratio of high cards to the ratio of low cards. The principle in counting cards in Blackjack is simple; if the deck has a high proportion of high cards against low cards, then the cards in this deck is good for the player. If it is the other way around, it is good for the dealer. High cards simply means a deck or cards with high value like tens or Aces because these two make a Blackjack instantly.

Unfortunately most of the casinos detest counting cards players because the casinos see it as a form of cheating, but according to the law it is not. It is in fact legal because you do it in your mind. If they would make counting cards a violation, then thinking would be a violation too. Devices that help you counting the cards are illegal and you will be banned from the casino and they may even file a law suit against you.

Most of the time casinos try to prevent the counting cards player from entering if they are known already and if the casinos are privatized like in Las Vegas then they have the right to just throw any player out who shows a counting cards pattern. If your bet is consistent with the ratio of high cards then it means you are counting cards and they monitor your pattern with special computer programs.

Another method the casinos are using is to let the Blackjack dealer talk to the suspected player to distract them and break the concentration. The casinos also introduced automatic shuffling machines so that the ratio of high cards and low cards will always be shuffled through. It seems very unfair to which extend the casinos go in order to prevent the counting cards player from winning.

If you are about to try your luck in counting cards when you play Blackjack, just keep in mind to keep a low profile and to keep the games fairly short so that the casinos will not get suspicious. Another way of increasing your chances at winning is to choose an old low tech casino or better yet private Blackjack tables to get some extra cash.
